Avenida de Mayo Ave.
Was the first avenue to be built in the country.
Largely inspired by Parisian boulevards, the avenue was peopled by Spaniards who had an influence on its architecture. Traditional Spanish operetta theaters and 'Spanish-style’ cafés abound on the avenue’s 1,200m of length. Opened in 1884, it became the center of social life in the early 20th Century. Famous cafés saw popular figures, such as the Paris Café, where the Gardel-Razzano duo sang. Today notable cafés such as Café Tortoni and Los 36 Billares are still in operation on Av. De Mayo Ave.
